The Old ("Neologue") and Orthodox Jewish cemeteries in Bonyhád

There are about 1,800 gravestones in the old cemetery and 410 in the Ortodox cemetery.

The oldest grave is from about 1750 and dates from the time Jews settled in the town.

Numbered graves in the Orthodox cemetery. Work in Progress.

This is based on aerial photo by talented photographer Réka Máté, Mrs. Kirch, in Bonyhád from a low-flying airplane (August 2011).

Réka's website

On the current aerial photo a large tree obstructs numerous graves. Apparently it was cut down.
After the winter a new aerial photo will be taken of the Orthodox and possibly Old cemetery for us
by Mr. Gábor Szentes in Bonyhád using a drone.

It is hoped to be able to obtain existing photos taken over 10 years ago of all gravestones.
If available they would be integrated into the website.
In that case click on a gravestone image number would present the related gravestone photo.

So far cost of developing a web based program and related expenss is under $500.

If the gravestone photo collection can not be obtained then
possibly a few hundred additional dollars would cover taking professional photos in the spring
of all gravestones in the Orthodox cemetery and for unexpected expenses.

Possibly an existing table of names related to gravestone numbers may also be obtained,
in which case it would be possible to search for a grave.
SSuch a grave would be highlighted on the the cemetery image and the gravestone image would be shown.
Possibly volunters from the Community would help develop such a table if it can't be obtained.
