Beit Ha Kehilot - Community House

The Jerusalem Community House was founded by the Jerusalem municipality in order to respond to the social needs of new immigrants from various countries and to assist their integration into Israeli society.

The Community House is a home to 50 organizations working for the benefit of diverse audiences and purposes. It is run by a small staff and has close to 300 volunteers.

Nearly 30,000 people pass pass through the Community House each year.

The organization is divided into seven groups:

• Cultural and social activities by country of origin
• The study and improvement of languages: Hebrew, English and Yiddish
• The advancement of social issues – housing for elderly people and one-parent families, adoption of soldiers without families, support for scientific and technological projects and aid in receiving compensations for Holocaust survivors
• Projects for youth groups from various countries
• Excursions and trips, to assist the study of Israel’s geography and culture
• The study of Jewish history and tradition

The Community House gives all 50 organizations the use of office facilities and services, rooms, and assistance in planning, organizing and executing projects. There are also free services for the benefit of the center’s visitors: psychological consultations, a lawyer as well as a councellor.
